Tales from the river bank

My fishing started in the late 50s mostly in the River Wharfe (Yorkshire) for trout, dace and chub using bait. I also did some roach fishing in the Leeds and Liverpool canal. It was not long before I took up fly fishing and fly tying.

After moving to Kendal I fished the Kent for trout, seatrout and salmon, and had some invites to fish the Lune for seatrout. After the end of the migratory fish season I had some trips with friends to fish for grayling in the River Ure in Wensleydale (Why is it not called uredale?). I used to have holidays further afield fishing the Spey (Scotland), and to Salisbury to fish the Nadder, Upper Avon and Wylye for the big roach and grayling in those southern rivers. Due to health problems (bad back and neck) I haven't fished for several years. Writing this web site made me think I missing out, and I have bought one of those new fangled carbon fibre fly rods which are amazingly light. Have had a few hours on the river.
