I am not too happy with some of the dressings and blame my eyes which are not as good as they used to be.

As many of the materials specified are from protected species I have had to substitute whatever was available.

I was doubtful about the word "tail" in the listings so I checked Leslie Magee's book Fly Fishing - The North Country Tradition and found:-
Ant Fly. From John Swarbrick's list (1807) "Harled at the tail with peacock harl"
Green Tail. From Sylvester Lister's list (1898) "Two or three turns of green silk at tail"

PS: I have re dressed some of the faulty ones which hopefully are a little better.

I was puzzled by the reference to Green Plover in the lists so I used Golden Plover (substitute!). I have recently discovered that Green Plover is an old name for Lapwing. I have used Paintshop Pro to to give the hackles a green tint.
