The Lune is well known salmon and seatrout river and is stocked with brown trout. I used to fish for trout in the Tebay area in the 1960's and had some enjoyable sport but only at the weekends as being without a car I had to travel by bus from Kendal.
A friend of mine had the fishing rights on a stretch of the Lune near Middleton. The first time I was invited for a night's seatrout fishing the weather was not ideal, low scudding clouds and a half gale blowing more or less straight up the river. By the time we came to tackle up the light had gone and was so dark it was like being in an unlit coalmine. Les, my friend, advised me to wear chest waders, and wade out up to breast level. With trepidation I did as I was told and had thoroughly miserable time wondering where my fly line was landing; somewhere upstream I believe. No fish on that night but I had some good sport on subsequent visits
